How To Take Beautiful Photos Quickly On A Smartphone?

At my friends’ request, I have the honor to share tips on this blog that will allow you to quickly take better photos with your smartphone. Without further intro, here is a checklist of 6 elements (very easy to apply) that will allow you to have prettier photos whatever the brand of your smartphone.

1. Your Photo Should Be Simple

In photography, there is one aspect that is essential and it is called composition, that is to say, the way of organizing the elements which are on your photo. The most common fault with beginners is to put a lot of elements in their photographs. My first tip for improving your photos is therefore to focus on just one element and not be afraid of having a lot of empty spaces in your photo.

As you can see in the photo above, simplifying it, you immediately have a much more pleasant photo.

This is even more important when using your smartphone because your photo will be seen on a smartphone screen or posted on a social network like Instagram, so if you include a lot of details they will not even be visible on a small screen.

2. Take Your Photos As You Get Closer To the Ground

Photographers call this technique a low angle of view. In fact, it is simply a question of crouching down to take your photos as close to the ground as possible.

The first advantage of this technique is to offer a more original point of view than a photo taken standing up. The second advantage of this technique is linked to tip number 1. You remember, the goal was to make your photo as simple as possible. As you get closer to the ground a large part of the photo will be filled with the blue of the sky which will “stand out” the subject on which you have chosen to focus.

In the photo below you can see the impact of empty space which makes the photo look prettier. I advised you to focus on a single element, here the photographer has focused on two subjects and using other advanced techniques but the photo would have been just as pretty with a single couple.

The third advantage of this technique is that it emphasizes the foreground of the photo. For example, in the following photograph, you can clearly see the texture of the puddle (the mini-wave).

3. Include Shadows in Your Photos

By adding shadows to your photo you will give it an almost magical effect. The effect can be more or less marked depending on the time of day or your position in relation to the sun.

4. Take Backlight Photos

This technique involves taking a picture of a subject with the sun behind the subject. Thus the person or the object takes the form of a dark silhouette.

You will notice that the photographer used several techniques mentioned previously: the low angle shot, the simplification of the photo by focusing on an element. Photography is quite nice; you can combine several simple techniques and make a very nice photo.

This backlighting technique can also be used indoors. In the next photograph taken in a metro station, the photographer made sure that the light source was behind the main subject.

5. Take a Picture of the Reflections

This trick is very effective; the reflection of a person or an object in water for example is enough to create a photo with a beautiful visual impact.

In the photo above the visual impact has been reinforced using techniques mentioned at the beginning of this article: the photo is simple in that there is only one main subject, here the bicycle; the low angle shot brings originality; the sky and the puddle of water provide empty spaces to show off the bike.

Finally, when you take a picture of an object and its reflection, you create an effect of symmetry which brings even more impact to your picture. So many techniques used to make a nice photo of a bike in a puddle!

6. Seek Symmetry

 As mentioned in the previous tip, the symmetry goes like a magic wand that gives a boost to the visual impact of your photo. The easiest is to use this technique in reflections; it works with aquatic surfaces, glazed. This technique also works with natural objects or architectural elements.

In the photo above only the symmetry of the trees has been used. You will notice that your gaze is not disturbed by elements that would distract us from the main subject.
